is totally committed to out of hospital birth

"I was born naturally.  My mother felt and watched me emerge from her and
open up to take my first breath.  She was elated.  As a child she told me about
it often.  As she told me, I felt the power and importance of that experience
to her.  I understood it and I knew that was special to me."

"I believe that women and their babies are too important to be left to
the mercy of an insensitive, expensive and interventive medical system.
"
My first year in college, I researched my family
tree and discovered two of my great-
grandmothers were midwives in Europe. After
receiving my BA in Biology, I discovered there
was no money in watching wolves or whales, and
decided to go back and get my BSN in 1981.
Shortly after, I had my first child with a hospital
based midwife. My second child was born out of
hospital. Thinking back on my family history of
midwifery, I went on to get my Masters in
Nursing and specialized in Midwifery in 1998 and
began caring for women throughout the
continuum of their life cycle. I have been taking
care of women in doctor’s offices and hospital
clinics for twelve years, but my heart was always
in holistic, natural care, and so I welcomed the
opportunity to come and work with Dinah at
Lovers Lane Birth Center.
Adelle Dishaw,
Certified Nurse Midwife
I really feel that women deserve to have a birth as close as possible to what they
want. Communication has always been big with me, and I always will tell the
woman what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and they always have a voice.
